    Virtual reality club hosts inaugural creator week

    The Clemson Virtual Reality Club hosted the inaugural “VR Creators Week” March 4-7 in the Immersive Space at the Watt Family Innovation Center. The student-led contests and workshops focused on creativity in virtual and augmented reality, providing students with an overview of new digital tools and the chance to win a variety of prizes, including a new Oculus Go headset and Amazon Echo Dot.

    Clemson to host largest debate championship among U.S. universities

    Clemson University will host students from 67 universities for the United States Universities Debating Championship (USUDC) April 13-15. The main event will be at 7 p.m. Monday, April 15, in Tillman Hall auditorium. It is free and the public is invited.

    This is the first time a South Carolina university has hosted a national debate championship. The prestigious event will bring more than 750 students to Clemson’s campus.

    Clemson partners with American Heart Association for CPR in Schools program

    Clemson University is the first university in the state of South Carolina to provide the American Heart Association CPR in Schools training. The program launched its first student group training in January and in the future plans to expand to trainees from a pool that could include resident assistants, tour guides, recreation staff, Orientation ambassadors, student government and student-athletes.

    Organized by a group of Clemson students, the popular TEDx series returns to the university’s main campus with a special event planned for Saturday, March 9, in the Watt Family Innovation Center. More than 100 students, faculty and staff will be engaged through eight different talks — including four from current Clemson students — as well as video presentations and guest performances.

    Clemson is national champion of GameDay Recycling, too

    The Clemson Tigers are national champions of college football, but Clemson fans and employees are national champions, too. For the second year in a row, Clemson University is the national champion in the 2018 GameDay Recycling Challenge. Fans and employees recycled 123,661 pounds of gameday refuse, 25,000 pounds more than last year’s 98,521 pounds.

    You’ll have to forgive Madeline Cordell if she seems a little anxious for Thursday’s 9:30 a.m. commencement at Clemson University. After all, the graduating senior has had a close brush with embarrassment before. “I almost took out the principal at my high school graduation,” she laughed. “I always seem to trip when I’m on stage. My family’s waiting to see what will happen. Maybe I’ll wear flip flops instead of heels.”
