To the SCIENCE Class of 2020
Dear SCIENCE Spring 2020 graduates,
Congratulations! As dean, I am beaming with pride for all that you have accomplished, and I am hopeful for the unique and impactful paths each of you will commence upon. Now more than ever we see the importance of the life, physical, and mathematical sciences in our world. Our outstanding faculty have done an incredible job preparing you, the next generation of leading scientists. You are ready to tackle tomorrow’s greatest scientific challenges.
It is often said that we do not remember days, we remember moments. Although we have had to reschedule commencement to another day when it is safe for us all to gather with family and friends in Littlejohn, I look forward to the moment you walk across the stage! And whether we can shake hands, elbow-bump or simply acknowledge each other as you cross over from student to alumni, know that the smile radiating from my face will represent all of those in your life who are right there with you in that very special moment.
As you look back over your time as a student at Clemson, I hope there are many great moments engraved in your memories. I encourage each of you to stay connected and engaged with each other, your department, your friends, your faculty, our college and our university.
They say that there is something magical in these hills. Take some of that special magic wherever you go. And please make sure you carve out time in your lives to come back every once in a while to let us know how you are doing and to see how you can help those who follow in your footsteps.
Thank you for choosing Clemson. It has been our honor and joy to have you as our student. We hope that upon graduation from Clemson you have an even stronger quest for scientific discovery, learning, and engagement than when you arrived.
Stay Healthy. Stay Positive. Stay Engaged! I look forward to seeing you at Commencement!
Cynthia Y. Young, Dean
