Second annual Cattlemen’s Day coming to Clemson’s Edisto research center
BLACKVILLE — Clemson University’s Edisto Research and Education Center, Clemson extension and the S.C. Cattlemen’s Association will host the 2009 Cattlemen’s Day and Edisto Forage Bull Test Sale, Saturday, Oct. 10.
Sponsors also include Vigortone and Performance Livestock and Feed.
The morning program will include presentations on bull management and health, producer awards, and producers will take questions.
After lunch is the big attraction: the bull sale. Some 50 purebred bulls will be on display and up for auction. To be included in the sale, all participants have passed strict tests in the months leading up to the auction.
Average age of the bulls is 20 months and each weighs in at an average of about 1,600 pounds. The average sale price is expected to be more than $2,000.
The day starts at 10 a.m., with lunch available at 11:30 a.m. and a chance to view the bulls. The sale starts at 1 p.m.
The event is free and open to the public, but there is a charge for lunch.
Clemson’s Edisto center is on U.S. Highway 78, three miles west of Blackville in Barnwell County.
