CLEMSON, South Carolina — The Clemson Alumni Association has named Miles Channing Thomas of New Orleans to its board of directors. His three-year term began July 1.

A Greer, South Carolina, native, Thomas graduated from Clemson in 2000 with a degree in speech and communication. In 2004, he received his Juris Doctor in Law from the University of Tennessee.

After graduating in 2004, Thomas practiced in upstate South Carolina with the firm Love, Thornton, Arnold & Thomason in a variety of areas including insurance defense, probate, real estate, and criminal law. He also served as a municipal prosecutor and as an assistant city attorney for several municipalities in Greenville County, South Carolina.

Thomas since transferred his practice to New Orleans where he focuses on admiralty and maritime law while continuing to maintain a general litigation practice. He is admitted to practice law in the state and federal courts of Louisiana and South Carolina and the U.S. Supreme Court, and is a member of the New Orleans, Louisiana State, South Carolina State, and American Bar Associations. Thomas has been selected as a “Rising Star” by Louisiana Super Lawyers for the past four years.

At Clemson, Thomas was a member of the speech team, IPTAY Collegiate Club and Minority Focus Committee, Tigers Who Care, and Kappa Alpha Order. He served as the youth director at Fort Hill Presbyterian Church, was a Clemson Young Alumni representative and member of the Greenville Young Alumni Council. After moving from South Carolina, Thomas was founder and president of the New Orleans Clemson Club.

Thomas and his wife, Rebecca, have two children, Sophie, 7, and Jackson, 4.

The alumni board has 24 members and is the governing body for the Clemson Alumni Association. Primary responsibilities of the board include general oversight of the programs and initiatives of the association, financial audit and review, the establishment of governing policies and strategic planning.
