CLEMSON — Clemson Cooperative Extension is bringing a unique educational experience focused on the latest beef industry updates and best management practices for successful cattle operations to the T. Ed Garrison Arena on Aug. 24-25.

Event flyerRegistration is open for the two-day Stockmanship and Stewardship event, which offers the opportunity to hear from some of the industry’s foremost experts, such as Curt Pate and Ron Gill, on how implementing sound stockmanship and stewardship practices can add value to an operation’s bottom line.

The cost of registration is $75 for a regular attendee and $50 for a student attendee, with all events and meals included. A valid student ID will be required when picking up credentials onsite to qualify for the student rate.

Clemson University, North Carolina State University and the University of Georgia partnered to write a proposal that secured a National Cattlemen’s Beef Association grant to make the event possible.

“It is essentially about best management practices in the beef industry,” said Matthew Burns, Clemson Extension beef specialist and Livestock and Forage Program team leader. “We are really promoting good stockmanship and good stewardship of the environment and of the animals themselves and ways to facilitate that.”

There will be cattle handling demonstrations, hands-on training and exposure to the industry’s newest information, as well as presentations on “Breaking the Mold, Cattle Production in the Southeast” by the 2018 South Carolina winner of the Swisher Sweets/Sunbelt Expo Southeastern Farmer of the Year award, Kevin Yon, and wife, Lydia Yon; and “National Beef Quality Audit: Market Cow and Bull Industry Results” by Deb VanOverbeke.
