When fire is taken out of the equation, forests start to change. As Clemson students study this change alongside their professors, they also have the opportunity to bring fire back to the Southern Appalachians as part of prescribed burns. Prescribed fire is a management tool used to reduce hazardous fuels and take forests that have changed dramatically because of fire suppression back to what they looked like 100 years ago.

Thanks to a partnership with the U.S. Forest Service, Clemson undergraduates have a chance to gain training and go out on prescribed burns and forest fires. Meet the Fire Tigers.
