The college expanded the award this year to honor two staff members, both of whom received the monetary award. They were Janet Hendricks  from the Holcombe Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Janeen Putman from the Department of Mechanical Engineering.

The sons of “Boonie” Wagener, a longtime secretary in the electrical engineering department, sponsor the award. Drs. Ken, Ben and Earl Wagener began the endowed fund to honor the outstanding contributions of their mother and those who follow in her footsteps.

Anand Gramopadhye, dean of the College of Engineering and Science, congratulated this year’s winners.

“This event gives us a chance to honor stellar individuals with technical and nontechnical awards,” he said. “Their creativity and enthusiasm is inspiring. They do the work that enables the students and faculty to excel.

“I thank the Wagener brothers for their thoughtful generosity and willingness to be always engaged with the college and the university. It is these acts of thoughtfulness that we should be thankful about during the holiday season.”
