Career Connections is a career fair prep session for pre-business and business majors that put them in a position to get the most from the Sept. 26 Business Career Fair at Littlejohn Coliseum.

The Student Enrichment Office is sponsoring Career Connections along with help from the College of Business Student Advisory Board.

Leah Hughes, Student Enrichment’s assistant director for career and professional development, said employers will be key contributors to Career Connections. Also represented at the Sept. 18 event will be a professional student organizations fair.

“Employers will be conducting breakout sessions and mini-mock interviews, followed by critique sessions,” she said. “The interviews will be a great opportunity for students to gauge where they need to improve on their interview skills before the career fair.”

Sarah Decker ’19 found last year’s preparatory event beneficial in her career search. Her mock interview was instrumental in landing a consulting position with PriceWaterhouseCoopers.

“The prep symposium last January offered great insight on navigating the career fair and networking opportunities,” she said. “But most significant for me were the mock interviews. My one-on-one mock interview turned into an official interview, which turned into an offer for my dream job. I couldn’t be happier now living and working in New York City for PriceWaterhouseCoopers.”

Financial support from First Citizen’s Bank’s CU Business EDGE (Engage Students in Development and Global Experiences) program funds Career Connections. CU Business EDGE, in its third year, aims to complement students’ educational experience through a variety of engaging activities that will sharpen their soft skills and help differentiate them in the job market.
