The efforts of Clemson University to increase opportunities for students and faculty to engage globally continue to move forward with the creation of a $250,000 endowment and a $250,000 fund thanks to a donation from the Michael W. Schwehr Family of The Woodlands, Texas. The gift will create the Schwehr Family Global Service Learning Annual and Schwehr Family Global Service Learning Endowment, both of which will support service-learning, research and engagement in under-resourced communities.
Clemson University’s Scroll of Honor Memorial occupies a highly visible plot of ground directly across the street from Memorial Stadium. The memorial is in the form of a barrow ringed with stones upon which are engraved the names of 493 alumni who died on active military service. The university's clear bag policy will be in effect for the event and there will be walk-through metal detectors at the entrances of the Burton Gallery, the East Gate, the South Gate and the student entrance on the loading dock. Students who are participating in the ceremony are asked to refrain from bringing bags.
Two Clemson research projects, which explore human health and childhood learning and development, are heading to the Smithsonian for the 2019 ACCelerate Festival. Both will be on display in Clemson’s R.M. Cooper Library on March 14 (10 a.m.-noon, 1-4 p.m.) and 15 (10 a.m.-noon). Clemson University, Ain Shams University of Egypt and Huazhong Agricultural University of China are partnering to address some of today’s most pressing environmental and cultural issues through design. While the universities have participated in joint design projects in the past, leaders from the three institutions came together on Clemson’s campus today to formalize and advance their work together through the creation of the World Design Studio. This semester, participating students from each university will research how design can deter the implications of rising sea levels in Charleston, South Carolina.
