Three Clemson University researchers, all in the Department of Industrial Engineering, are winning an award for a paper they co-authored and had published in IISE Transactions.

Sandra Eksioglu, Hadi Karimi and Burak Eksioglu co-authored, “Optimization models to integrate production and transportation planning for biomass co-firing in coal-fired power plants.”

The paper has been selected as the Best Application Paper in the IISE Transactions Focus Issue on Scheduling and Logistics for 2018.

Congratulations came from Cole Smith, chair of the Department of Industrial Engineering.

“Because IISE Transactions is the flagship journal of the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers, just publishing in that journal is a significant accomplishment,” he said. “The best paper award from this journal is a very significant research accomplishment that underscores Dr. Eksioglu’s research success and the huge impact she has made in our field.”

Sandra and Burak Eksioglu, who are married, are associate professors. Karimi will be receiving his Ph.D. in May 2018. His advisor is Sandra Eksioglu.

The team’s accomplishments will be recognized at the Industrial and Systems Engineering Research Conference in Orlando in May.
