This Tiger is excited to teach students, conduct research and make new discoveries that make positive contributions to society. He says he’s proud to be part of a place where science and discovery are valued.

Meet Ramakrishna Podila.

Title: Assistant professor, Physics and Astronomy

Years at Clemson: 4

What I do at Clemson: My lab focuses on research at the nanoscale to uncover novel fundamental phenomena that could be translated to realize new energy generation, storage and biosensing devices.

What I love about Clemson: The weather and the Tiger spirit

What was a defining moment for you at Clemson: I obtained my Ph.D. in physics from Clemson. After finishing my post-doctoral work, I was happy to return to Clemson because my blood is orange.

Accomplishment I’m most proud of: My lab’s discovery on increasing energy and power of supercapacitors and batteries by modifying defects.

Where I see myself in five years: I see myself leading center-like synergistic research efforts in nanomaterials at Clemson.

Last thing I watched on TV: Indian Premier League (Cricket)

Guilty pleasure: Coffee

One thing most people don’t know about me: I sleep only two hours a day and I write poetry in my native tongue (Telugu).
