Leadership is in this Tiger’s blood. As early as high school, she refined her leadership and teamwork skills as captain of her high school track team. She made sure players were focused, had the right mindset and exhibited a superior level of effort.

As a professional, she used what she learned in high school and college to develop those skills in Clemson athletes and now, as head of the President’s Leadership Institute, she seeks to identify, refine and nurture leadership skills in faculty and staff.

Meet Kyra Lobbins.

Title: Director of President’s Leadership and Strategic Initiatives

Years at Clemson: 4

What I do at Clemson: Until April 2017, I have primarily been known as the director of the President’s Leadership program and as the director of student athlete development. Since I have transitioned into the President’s office full-time, I will be spearheading a number of initiatives to support leadership development and involvement for faculty and staff, as well as supporting initiatives to get external parties involved with the university strengthening partnerships nationwide.

What I love about Clemson: The sense of urgency people have to make a positive impact, and the competitive edge Clemson has to be the best. I love being a part of something bigger than me. It is evident Clemson is positioning itself to be at the pinnacle of success, and be the model for all institutions to follow. Makes me come to work every day with a sense of purpose and drive that is hard to explain other than to be the best I am today, and even better tomorrow.  The wonderful students, faculty, and staff are just the icing on the cake.

Accomplishment I’m most proud of: I heard this from one of the members from the President’s Leadership Institute and I am going to borrow it because it is true. My biggest accomplishment is still yet to be determined because I have not done it yet!

Where I see myself in five years: I see myself leading. I am not sure in what industry or capacity, but I see myself making a difference and creating opportunities for others – this is the most important thing to me.

Last thing I watched on TV: Shades of Blue starring Jennifer Lopez and Ray Liotta

Guilty pleasure:  Doughnuts

One thing most people don’t know about me: I love to travel and be outdoors, especially in the water. The most recent hobbies I have picked up are wake surfing and mountain biking.
