CLEMSON — The Clemson University Military Affairs Committee is hosting the second annual Walk for Veterans Saturday to support Clemson’s military heritage and the Clemson Veterans Scholarship Endowment.

The 0.88-mile walk will begin at 10 a.m. at Parkway Drive by the President’s House and end at the Scroll of Honor. Following the walk, participants are invited a tailgate on the Fike sundeck from 11 a.m. to the start of the Spring Football game at 2:30 p.m. Barbecue and live music will be provided.

Proceeds from the event will directly benefit the newly created Clemson Veterans Scholarship Endowment, which provides scholarships for students working toward a degree after years of service in the armed forces. So far, the committee has raised more than $10,000 toward the endowment.

“The Walk for Veterans is so different from other events on our campus because it directly relates to the Clemson University core values of integrity, honesty and respect,” said Michelle Lussier, the Walk for Veterans director.

“The walk isn’t about raising the most money or signing up the most participants, but instead honoring those who have served for us. The Clemson student veterans have gone above and beyond in so many ways, this is our way of saying ‘thank you.’”
Last year, the Clemson Student Veterans Association (CSVA) and Clemson Army ROTC teamed up to raise more than $26,000 for the scholarship. Inspired by the work of the CSVA and Army ROTC, the Military Affairs Committee hopes to keep this an annual event.
