Student awards established in honor of college dean
CLEMSON — Clemson University’s parks, recreation and tourism management (PRTM) and Master of Science in Youth Development Leadership (YDL) Program have established student awards in honor of Lawrence R. Allen, who will step down as College of Health, Education and Human Development dean at the end of June.
At its annual Spring Awards Banquet, PRTM chairman Brett Wright announced that the Dean Lawrence R. Allen Engaged Future Professional Award will be given annually to an undergraduate student in the department who has demonstrated a commitment to professional engagement in parks, recreation and tourism management.
The Master of Science in Youth Development Leadership Program (YDL) will award the Dean Lawrence R. Allen Professional Contributions to Youth Development Leadership Annual Award, YDL program coordinator William Quinn announced during a Spring Honors and Awards Week event. The award will be given annually to an outstanding student enrolled in the second year of the program.
A 24-year veteran of the College of Health, Education and Human Development and dean since 2003, Allen is returning to the faculty of the PRTM, where he holds tenure and was chairman earlier in his Clemson career. Allen was also instrumental in the creation of the Master of Science in Youth Development Leadership Program.
