CLEMSON — Clemson University Fire Department volunteer Capt. Steve Lightsey has been awarded the Clemson Rotary Club Outstanding Community Service Award for his 41 years of service to Clemson University and the city of Clemson.
Fire Chief William Daniel said Lightsey has built a reputation of dependability during his tenure. “He has been a fixture around here for many years,” Daniel said. “Departments like ours depend on guys like him so that we can serve the public.”
Lightsey was recognized and awarded for his four decades of dedication as a volunteer firefighter at the June 13 Rotary meeting at the Ramada Inn of Clemson.
Lightsey retired from the Clemson University animal and veterinary science department, however he remains an active volunteer with the fire department. His firefighting career began in 1970 as a student firefighter while attending Clemson University.
