CLEMSON — Clemson University will hold its annual Solid Green Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday. Students, faculty and staff are invited to participate in cleaning up litter following Homecoming activities on Clemson’s main campus.

The Solid Green campaign aims to raise campus awareness of littering, recycling, energy and water conservation and other environmental issues; to promote cleanup activities and other events; and to support student groups that encourage environmental awareness.solidgreenlogo

“Clemson has an award-winning recycling program in the state of South Carolina and has been recognized by other ACC schools for its gameday recycling efforts over the last several years,” said Gary Gaulin, associate director of University Housing and Dining.

Organizers say the annual event is an extension of the activities held during Homecoming, such as the use of recycled materials in floats and placement of recycling bins on Bowman Field during the event.

“Our goal is to reduce materials going to the landfill and to educate folks on how recycling is a good way to use waste as an asset for the university,” Gaulin said.

Participants are asked to check in at the Carillon Garden and will be assigned to various areas on campus. After returning the litter collection, participants will receive a free Solid Green T-shirt as long as supplies last.
