You’ve seen them on campus, shouldering cameras and backdrops, gripping microphones. They’re at athletic events and commencement, they’re in classrooms and labs and on the lawns, they’re everywhere, but always behind a lens.

But with 14 recent Telly Awards for outstanding video production, the Clemson University Broadcast Productions team has earned time in the spotlight. Their work portrays the breadth of Clemson’s activities, from animation that explains eukaryotic pathogens to capturing the moment when U.S. Navy Ensign William Sears popped out of a Coke machine to surprise his family at a Clemson football game.

“Amazing stories unfold at Clemson University every day, and the creative and dedicated folks on our Broadcast Production team do an outstanding job of telling those stories,” said Mark Land, vice president for University Relations. “We’re very proud of these well-deserved honors.”

“The staff of Broadcast Productions takes pride in telling the world about Clemson University through video,” said Eric Rodgers, director of Clemson Broadcast Productions. “Our outstanding team of video professionals approaches each and every project with enthusiasm and is constantly looking for creative ways to communicate through video.”

Broadcast Productions works out of a high-tech studio on campus in the Madren Center. Their expertise includes video and audio production, post-production, animation and motion graphics, field and studio production and four licensed drone pilots.

Videos are an important part of communicating in today’s world. Combined with Clemson’s robust distribution platforms, videos deliver the types of messages our audiences want, in ways that our audiences want to receive them, Land said.

“Having an outstanding video production crew at Clemson gives us a distinct advantage in promoting our mission,” Land said. “Videos help recruit students, faculty and staff, and they inform the world about our research and why it matters in people’s lives.”

Telly Awards are national honors acknowledging the best productions on TV, cable and the web, from commercials to film productions.

Three videos received silver awards, the Telly Awards’ highest honors. One video is about the atmosphere at Clemson football games; another promotes the College of Engineering, Computing and Applied Sciences; and the third is an episode focused on the impact of trauma on high school dropouts from the long-running “Solutions to the Dropout Crisis” series produced in conjunction with the National Dropout Prevention Center, which is based at Clemson.

There were also 11 second-place bronze awards for videos that convey an emotion and identity that’s uniquely Clemson, especially in promotional videos that showcase the campus and highlight our students. But they also share knowledge about research and discovery.

Many of the videos are shared on Clemson’s social media outlets, which you can find @ClemsonUniv. Others are prepared for academic or administrative units on campus and are shared with specific audiences.
