POW-MIA-CeremonyCLEMSON — Clemson University’s Army and Air Force ROTC units will hold a ceremony to mark National POW/MIA Remembrance Day from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, in Tillman Hall auditorium.

The ceremony will feature guest speaker Samuel Lewis, a retired Marine officer and Anderson County Veterans Affairs Service Officer. Lewis has been honored with Service Officer of the Year award, the Purple Heart and Small Business of the Year award in 2002. He received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Marine Corps after serving from 1969 to 1970. He is a life member of the American Legion, VFW and Military Order of the Purple Heart, Disabled American Veterans and a continuous member of the Forty and Eight Vietnam Veterans of America.

A 24-hour vigil will be held in front of Tillman from 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18. to 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19. Cadets will guard a cage that symbolizes soldiers who have been taken prisoner or are listed as missing in action.

National POW/MIA Remembrance Day is held on the third Friday of September every year.
