CLEMSON — Clemson University will celebrate the role research plays – on campus and beyond – during the month of April with activities showcasing the academic excellence and scholarship of its students and faculty.

“This monthlong celebration is an opportunity for the entire Clemson community to come together and recognize the impressive level of scholarship and innovation achieved by our students and faculty,” said Barbara Speziale, professor and associate dean of Undergraduate Studies.

Research and Innovation Month kicks off Tuesday with a thesis competition that will challenge research students to communicate the significance of their projects to a non-specialist audience in just three minutes. The first full week in April will include a Focus on Creative Inquiry Poster Forum presented by undergraduate researchers and a Graduate Research and Discovery Symposium showcasing the innovative and outstanding work of graduate students.

Upcoming events include a research forum that will address current issues and trends; award ceremonies honoring the achievements of faculty and students; and activities that will promote studies being conducted in the arts, humanities, sciences, business and engineering.

A variety of lectures on such topics as entrepreneurship, nanotechnology, health care, social engineering and manufacturing will be presented as part of Research and Innovation Month. In addition, the Office of Economic Development will highlight Clemson Innovation Centers and explore student and faculty research opportunities.

“This is a unique opportunity for students, faculty, staff, government, nonprofits and private industry to collaborate and discover how their innovative research projects are interrelated,” said Larry Dooley, interim vice president for research at Clemson University.

He said the research activities taking place through the month of April will provide educational and networking opportunities that further develop research findings and support the accomplishments of Clemson’s students, faculty and staff.

The celebration will highlight Clemson research that continues to advance South Carolina’s civic, social and cultural landscapes and serves as an engine for economic growth throughout the state.

The complete listing of events, lectures and other activities are posted online.
