The College of Health, Education and Human Development (HEHD) honored Dean Larry Allen’s years of service with a June 5 celebration of appreciation that brought together scores of colleagues, family and friends. The event was held at the Madren Center on the Clemson campus.

Among those bringing remarks and good wishes were Clemson President James P. Clements, former Clemson Provost Dori Helms, Charleston County Park & Recreation Commission Executive Director Tom O’Rourke, Clemson Visiting Scholar and former National Park Service Director Fran Mainella, Anderson County School District 4 Superintendent and HEHD External Advisory Board member Lee D’Andrea, Department of Public Health Sciences Chair Lee Crandall, Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management Chair Brett Wright, Institute on Family and Neighborhood Life Interim Director Jim McDonell, Alumni Distinguished Professor Emeritus Fran McGuire, Outdoor Lab Director Leslie Conrad, US Play Coalition Executive Director Carly Summers, HEHD Chief Business Officer Regina Carroll, and HEHD Administrative Coordinator for the Dean Tracy Kelly.

Allen will step down as dean at the end of June. At that time, he will return to the faculty of the Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management, where he holds tenure and was chairman earlier in his Clemson career. A 24-year veteran of the college, Allen became dean in May 2003. Prior to assuming the deanship, he served as interim dean, associate dean for research and curriculum development and professor.
