Clemson University graduate named South Carolina civil engineer of the year
Clemson University graduate Michael V. Horton has been named 2017 Engineer of the Year by the South Carolina Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers.
Horton obtained his Master of Engineering in applied fluid mechanics and Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from Clemson University.
Each year, this award is presented to the engineer that has demonstrated the most outstanding contribution to the profession in South Carolina. Horton was presented the award during the society’s annual meeting of its South Carolina Section in Myrtle Beach.
Horton is the chief engineering officer for Davis & Floyd and has been with the firm for more than 20 years. In this role, he oversees the technical delivery of professional services and leads the project management and project delivery programs. His specialty is hydraulics and hydrology where he continues to serve as a senior technical advisor in the study and design of projects that involve stormwater management and flood control facilities.
Active in his profession, Horton is the past president of the American Council of Engineering Companies of South Carolina (ACEC-SC) board of directors, past president of the ASCE-SC and past chairman of the advisory board for the Glenn Department of Civil Engineering at Clemson University.
